ng--a spoof of recent Broadway musicals. It's in a tiny theatre (seats about 100), and we were third row center. Over our shoulder who do we see but David Hyde Pierce, very cute and relaxed looking in khakis and a baseball cap. The show started with a hysterical send up of the opening number of Spring Awakening,and it didn't let up until two hours later after making fun of basically all the musicals we saw last year. We were laughing hysterically (and yes, I let out a few uncontrollable snorts) pretty much throughout the whole thing and felt very in-the-know since we got all the inside jokes, etc. The funniest part was watching David Hyde Pierce as he was being lampooned on the stage for his role in both Spamalot and Curtains. He had to take his glasses off and wipe away tears from laughing so hard. Of course, we chatted him up a bit during intermission (keeping to our motto: "Acknowledge, but don't fawn.") and he is really nice. He stayed after the show to take pictures with the cast and hang out with them which clearly thrilled the four actors in the show. It was a great night--after taking Adam G. and his girlfriend, Katie out to dinner, we came back to the room and crashed.
Up early this morning to head over to the Good Morning America studio audience. We had a confirmation letter to get in, but once we got there (6:00AM) we were told that they had canceled the studio audience for the day. There were tons of people there in three separate lines waiting to get in to a live Janet Jackson concert that GMA had scheduled in the Marquis Theatre. We were, of course, bummed out and a little pissed off that we had gotten out of bed so early . . . after whining a bit (charmingly, of course) to a couple of the security guards, one of them offered to let us come back tomorrow, promising that he would personally see that we got in with no problem. Cool.
As we were heading out to grab some breakfast, a young woman saw our Culture Buddies sign (thank you, Sarah!) and asked if we had a confirmation for the studio audience. I showed it to her, and she told us we could go into the Janet Jackson concert instead. We figured what the hell, and she put us at what looked like the back of the line. After awhile, she came back around and put numbers on the hands of the people in our line and told us to turn around and start going in. So, after they let in some "VIPS", the Culture Buddies ended up being #11 and #12 to go into the theatre--unbelievable . . .
Long story short, we had great seats, and we got to see Janet Jackson, her band, and her dancers perform three numbers. And we get to go back tomorrow morning if we want to! We're crashing now and will head to Brooklyn this afternoon. We're seeing Patrick Stewart in a very well-reviewed production of Macbeth tonight at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Theatre.
